In 2019, The Swan was brought back to life after more than three years standing derelict. From receiving the keys in February to opening as a bar in July, the journey culminated in a Hogmanay celebration welcoming 2020.
Throughout the year, the Events Diary captured volunteer efforts restoring the pub, alongside a growing programme of social events, music, and fairs – an extraordinary year of progress and community spirit.

Nearly 200 people celebrated key collection, heard future plans, and helped clear debris in a community-led site clean-up.
March
After airing the damp building, volunteers returned to help, boosted by The Skangsters’ donation to the renovation fund.

With progress continuing, volunteers turned out in force to support regular crews, alongside a successful fundraising BBQ.

Renovations progressed quickly, with a plant sale fundraiser and the pub featuring in a locally filmed production.

A busy run-up led to our successful opening on the 20th – a well-attended launch finally generating much-needed revenue.
August
August brought weekend BBQs boosting funds, our first Book Club meeting, and continued volunteer days supporting restoration efforts.
September
Volunteers stripped wiring for scrap, Alex Loveless ran 50km fundraising, while Windsor Fringe and community events filled the month.
October
Radio Berkshire broadcast live, music returned, and Halloween ended the month with a fun community celebration.
November
November featured Bonfire Night celebrations, a successful Macmillan coffee morning, and The Bacon Bappers winning the quiz.
