2022 started with COVID-19 and Boris dominating the news headlines. No lockdown, but face masks, booster shots and testing were the norm. With no lockdown, The Swan continued with events, but with the recommendation that people test and take the appropriate precautions when attending.
Eventually, COVID was in the past, and our kitchen opened in mid-May. By December, we had three Prime Ministers, four Chancellors of the Exchequer and inflation in double digits. And it was the end of an era with the passing of HM Queen Elizabeth II.
January
January 2022 began with a bang – quizzes, bingo, charity coffee mornings, and a special cruise for loyal online players.
February
We celebrated regular Rene Lowe’s 100th birthday with a community party, alongside plenty more activity at The Swan.
March
Popular events returned – quizzes, bingo, cheese and wine – plus a well-supported Comic Relief coffee morning.
April
Twenty guests enjoyed a Fever-Tree gin masterclass, crafting and tasting perfect serves – highlights captured despite a quieter month.
May
This month featured a charity coffee morning, The Kitchen’s debut test day, and a visit from the W&E Brew Dray.
June
The Queen’s Platinum Jubilee brought tea parties, evening music, and community celebrations – plus plenty more memorable activities at The Swan.
July
July was packed with line dancing, birthday parties, Christmas in July, and plenty more lively events.
August
August featured SwanFest, our annual community event, alongside quizzes, mini-markets, and more—see the diary for highlights.
September
September marked Queen Elizabeth II’s passing and King Charles III’s accession, with fewer events reflected in a quieter diary.
October
Halloween brought spooks and ghouls, chased off by Datchet Border Morris—plus more events in October’s diary.
