The community came out en masse to see the all-important Semi Final against arched rivals Argentina. Would we make a World Cup Final again for the first time since 1966? Could we finally “Bring it Home” again after a 60-year wait? At the end of half time the atmosphere was electric – England were 1-0 up and holding their own against what appeared to be a sub-par Argentina. But it wasn’t to be, and with two late goals our opponents came back from the brink to defeat us 2-1.
There were hugs, there were tears, but importantly a few more consolatory pints! And we turned our attention to the third place play off against France in 3 days’ time…..
